Kilimanjaro Climber Reviews

Thank you Ian Taylor Trekking for a great experience preparing and helping me reach the Roof of Africa at the top of Mount Kilimanjaro! Every aspect of the support provided was excellent starting with the comprehensive suggested training program (follow it - it works!), the "what to expect" and educational information and the detailed suggested gear list (follow it - it works!) provided in "the dossier" they provide in advance. The team in the US was always available for answering questions in the months leading up to our trip, which really helped. Our team on the ground could not have been better - meeting us at the airport and delivering us to our hotel after a LOONNGG trip from the US to Tanzania, arranging a short tour of Arusha on our free day prior to the climb. Our head guide, Amani, along with guide Moses, chef Jouma and the rest of the support team were absolutely incredible once we got on the mountain. The care and joy with which they approach their work are inspiring and encouraging. And it's clear that they KNOW what it takes and have a proven approach to give each team member the very best opportunity to make it to the top and complete their goal. A special shout out to the whole Ian Taylor Team for helping me celebrate my daughter's birthday, even though I was thousands of miles on the day it occurred. From a casual mention from me early in the trip, the team baked a cake, arranged a Swahili "happy birthday" song and got the video half way around the world so it could be delivered to my daughter on her actual birthday - incredible! As a long time Human Resources executive at a Fortune 50 company, I can say that Ian Taylor Trekking is a company with a great culture that truly cares about their clients, their people and the communities in which they live and work. Can't recommend they more highly for your next trekking adventure!
We had a brilliant experience climbing Kilimanjaro with Ian Taylor Trekking. Our guides gave us a lesson in humility, joy, confidence, expertise and hospitality. I just can’t fault the experience. We always felt safe, well fed, listened to and appreciated. Thank you Armani, Edwin, Antony, Moses and the whole Tanzanian team.
Ian Taylor Trekking could absolutely not have done a better job! From our very first conversation with them, considering climbing Kilimanjaro, they were the standout compared to all other companies we talked too. And they did not disappoint! You feel everything was 100% throughly planned, from preparation to leaving Tanzania again, it was through fully the full package. Laura and Ian, were always available for questions. And our Hiking crew at Kilimanjaro with guides Eman and Roland were the best, and of course the porters that brought smile and comfort to our face everyday! We did this for our honeymoon and will give ITT and their entire crew our best recommendations. They take care of people.
Several years ago, I decided I wanted to climb Kilimanjaro. I looked at many tour operators before contacting Ian Taylor Trekking. Choosing the company you trek with is the most important decision you’ll make. It’s not your equipment, flights, or what type of camera to take – it’s the tour operator. I was immediately impressed by the fact that you’re communicating directly with Ian and his wonderful wife and co-owner, Laura. Having the ability to contact either of them to ask a question or voice a concern is a very big deal for me, and they always answer quickly and with great confidence. Ian’s company is second to none when it comes to communication, and his passion for his employees in other parts of the world comes through when you trek with him. I’ve been on multiple trips with Ian Taylor Trekking and I have no plan to stop anytime soon. I can’t imagine ever choosing a different company for these trips. Ian’s experience shows on the treks. He has the best porters and guides, and I always come away from his trips with several new friends. Safety is always a top priority, and Ian puts safety first, always. Upon meeting Ian, it feels like you’ve already known him forever. He’s very easy going, while always being fully in control of any situation. I truly feel like I struck gold when I decided to use his company the first time. I can happily and wholeheartedly endorse his company without reservation. If you’re still unsure, just reach out to him. I guarantee you won’t be disappointed.
Doing Kilimanjaro with Ian Taylor Trekking is the best and only way to do this itinerary. The number one Kilimanjaro guide assisted by the number one Kilimanjaro crew is an understatement. These guys were truly excellent and superseded all expectations. They worked so hard every waking hour to take care of us, with big smiles on their faces, catering to all our needs and beyond. A team of 45 of them for 8 of us!!! On a trip like this how you pace the group, how you instruct people to drink and eat for the mountain, so they acclimatize properly and have adequate energy, is of vital importance to the well being of each guest and to the success of the trek. And in this task our guide and assistant guides were no short of exceptional. I felt great throughout the entire trek thanks to their attention to detail. I thought it was a bit much but on summit night I realized why we were doing everything we were doing all along! We had the perfect plan and the perfect execution! We felt supported literally every step of the way, we had one crew member per trekker on summit night. Five hours of trekking to climb 1000m/3000ft a distance of 4km or 2.6 miles. Everything was very methodical, we stopped every hour, we had hot tea, our pace was perfection. We got to Stella Point with still enough energy to make summiting feel easy after that last push. My favorite part was when they started singing for us to take our mind off of the hardest part of the climb. That was so so helpful and just so sweet of them. We reached the summit elated, we laughed, we cried, we hugged! What an amazing trek! And it didn't stop there. Because if you are going to climb a mountain you should know that the way down is even harder! Good thing Ian had made it a point to train for descending!!! And of course the remainder of this fantastic journey was equally perfectly planned and executed. Thank you Ian Taylor Trekking for the trek of a lifetime!
The experience of climbing Kilimanjaro with Ian’s trekking team was truly amazing, and no words will do the experience justice. From being greeted warmly at the airport, to making sure every physical need was met over the next 8-10 days, to all of the emotional support along the way, the team was truly amazing. You are surrounded by the most caring and genuine people on the trip, making you forget about the physical challenges along the way. The food and facilities are clearly top tier – it was easy to see that when looking around to other camps at night. The preparation before the trip from Ian and Laura was more than adequate in preparing us for what to expect and what to bring. (Though I recommend packing extra rain gear because no one can predict the weather on Kili!) All of the guides and porters were always smiling and happy to help, even helping to take care of our gear that had gotten wet in the rain. Our guides truly wanted us to succeed. They gave so much to us every day – and especially summit night so we could reach our goals. Our group became friends and family by the end. Thinking back on the trip, it is easy to forget any physical low points when I remember the smiling faces and positive attitude of everyone around me who made it an experience worth doing again.
I climbed Mount Meru for acclimation end of January, and three days upon return Mount Kilimanjaro with IanTaylor. Bottom line: the IanTaylor organization, the around the clock availability, their local professionals and support staff are the best I’ve ever experienced and fully enjoyed from A to Z in my young age of 74 (was formerly mountain and tour guide myself). It started with Ian providing advise personally via zoom, the attention and easy to handle administration, the warm welcome, introductions and care by the local management in Tansania, the very professional leadership and support up and down the mountains to – I was lucky – ending by I meeting Ian personally after Kilimanjaro in Arusha. Ian’s advice, and contents on the homepage are all to the point. The professionalism of the local guides – I had Amani, an exceptionally professionally, technically, and psychologically astute guide, on both mountains – the daily review and planning sessions on the trek, the three warm meal policy, the acclimation and personal energy management, and the safety/risk management were letting us participants concentrate on and enjoy the tasks at hand and brought us all to the summits at sunrise. Unconditionally, I can recommend IanTaiylor. They operate beyond expected standards. I’m already thinking of signing up again for later this year. Bruno (from Switzerland)
I had such an amazing experience with Ian Taylor Trekking climbing Mt Kilimanjaro. The communication and information pre-trip was detailed, personal and prompt. That was much appreciated. I felt welcomed by the guides from the moment we met them. Arrangements were smooth and nothing was too much trouble for the guides and other staff to assist with. I felt very well looked after. The whole trek followed excellent processes, safety was number 1, and information during the trek was clear and forthcoming. The care, patience and genuine interest from the guides and other staff was incredible. I thoroughly enjoyed the whole trek and making summit was spectacular. Thank you Amani, Edwin, Moses and Anthony for guiding us for carefully. Thank you for your encouragement and for taking time away from your families to invest in us. Thank you Frances for helping me on summit night. You were so patient and kind. I enjoyed the singing (thanks King Solomon and others), the fun and the laughter. The cooks and servers did an incredible job and catered for all dietary needs. Thanks you Ishmail for carrying my duffle bag and for all the others who were part of the team. I have more joy and gratitude in my heart from this whole experience.
I climbed Kilimanjaro in October 2023 with Ian Taylor Trekking, and there aren't words to adequately describe the quality of this team. From the preparation, to the food, to the equipment, to the guides and team, everything was exceptional. I wouldn't climb with any other team!
I climbed Island Peak with Ian Taylor Trekking in October 2015 after trekking to Everest Base camp. I had previous experience with altitude on Kilimanjaro so I was already prepared to an extent for the Everest Base Camp trek. What I wasn’t prepared for was just how amazing the experience would be. The extra acclimatization in Namche built into Ian Taylor Trekking trips made such a difference in how we all felt higher up on the trail. We felt strong and well adjusted, fully able to enjoy the experience. My main concern before the trip was my ascent of Island Peak. This was a new height record for me and my first technical climb. I was very nervous but the communication, advice, training and reassurance provided by Ian and his team was fantastic, both during the trip and in the months leading up to it. The experience of the Sherpa staff was outstanding, as was the effort they put into ensuring that we safely succeeded. Thank’s to them and everyone at Ian Taylor Trekking I have now climbed a peak higher than 20,000 ft in the Himalayas. An experience that I will never forget and one that I would strongly recommend to anyone who is looking for their next challenge.
I climbed Kilimanjaro in June 2022 with Ian Taylor Trekking and it was by far the most amazing experience of my life. We had a great team, the best preparation and guides to keep us safe and successful on the mountain. I will be climbing with Ian Taylor Trekking again!
I have been to EBC (2016) and last year summited Mera Peak with Ian Taylor trekking, Now the only company i will trek/climb with, Hopefully in the next couple of years i will trek to K2 base camp and have Kilimanjaro and Aconcagua in my sights, Great company with THE nicest people, Very competitively priced compared to other companies
Ian Taylor Trekking is the only company I would ever use when booking any trekking, or mountain climbing expedition. After climbing Mount Kilimanjaro with Ian Taylor and his team of highly experienced professionals it is a no brainer. We saw many other companies on the mountain and none of them were as organized or well put together as Ian Taylor Trekking. -our guides, cooks, porters, and security team were great. -our sleeping and eating arrangements well planned out. -our meals were great, we had coffee and hot water brought to our tents every morning -our days we planned out and explained to us before the trip and re-explained everyday after dinner. -the path we took was ideal for acclimatization, safety, and overall experience. Ian Taylor is the true Mountain King and his level of experience is second to none.
I've been sitting on this review for the past week, as I've been processing some post-trip depression. The reason for this depression is due to the quality of connection and experiences had with Ian Taylor & struggles readjusting back to "normal life" My first trek with Ian was with my dad & brother on Kilimanjaro, last summer. I had a similar feeling following that trek, which is why my dad and I decided to book another trip this year (Cayambe/Chimborazo). Every detail of this trek was executed with meticulous detail, so much so that it was hard figuring out how they do this with such consistency. The secret (or my best guess)? Their team has 20+ years of experience, and are constantly iterating to one up themselves. This expertise is not only in logistics, but also in mountaineering. I've been climbing mountains in Colorado for years, and Ian has taken my love for mountaineering to new heights (pun intended). After seeing the level of safety and attention to detail put into the technical aspects of these climbs, I am not going to do any other big treks with anyone else (looking at you, Aconcagua...) Thank you, Ian & Laura for living with intentionality and for putting in the work to give me experiences that I will never forget.
I can't speak highly enough about Ian Taylor Trekking. From the first day I connected with Ian & Laura over email, to holding a Skype call with Ian during which he listened to my ambition & recommended what challenge was most suited to me (Mount Kilimanjaro), to helping me create a training program, provide recommendations for extending our adventurous trip, right to the most important of all - climbing the mountain. The experience from start to finish was exceptionally organized. At all times our safety was no.1 priority and for that I would give Ian & his team 10 stars if I could. Our lead guide, Athumani, (may I add who has Kilimanjaro's No.1 Guide award under his belt!) kept us motivated, safe, and at all times made the trip fun, along with the amazing team who provided the most elite facilities & entertainment for us on the mountain - honestly, it was beyond what we ever expected. Tell me, what chef can manage to make a birthday cake for one of the climbers, whilst half way up the world's highest free standing mountain. Other trekking groups take different and quicker routes up Mount Kilimanjaro which can be cheaper. I can say that we were beyond happy with our decision to pay that bit extra for the expertise, safety & chance of easier acclimatization, especially when you see other groups having to turn around or struggle hugely to make the summit. It's the journey that matters & not the destination and I can say the journey from emailing Ian from my flat in London, to cheering from the top of Mount Kilimanjaro was one of the best things I have done in my life. Choose Ian Taylor Trekking - you won't regret it for a second!
I recently climbed Kilimanjaro with Ian Taylor Trekking and I couldn't be happier with the entire experience, from start to successful finish! Both Ian and Laura were extremely helpful and responsive to my numerous questions leading up to the climb, which made planning all that much more smoother. The trek itself was executed by all members of the ITT team with professionalism, dedication, and attention to detail. Their sole focus was getting you up the mountain safely while still having fun. The care and enjoyment shown by each of the guides and Ian himself, each and every day, went a long way towards making the experience all that more memorable...and it felt like climbing with family. This trip was over a year in the making, and Ian and his team got me, my friend, and 13 others to the top. It's safe to say that Ian Taylor Trekking is the only company I could ever see myself using for future expeditions. Machu Picchu and Everest Base Camp, here I come! Thank you so much, Ian and team!
I first met Ian 7 years ago when I experienced an Everest Base Camp trek he led. That trip was a life-changing experience. When it came time to consider traveling on the Inca Trail with my wife, there was no other trekking group that I considered. We went on the 5-day Inca Trial journey with Ian Taylor Trekking in June 2022. What a magnificent journey. The trek started with several days in Cusco and the surrounding Sacred Valley. Ian’s in-country staff made everything go so smoothly. Percy and his team took care of all the logistics when we arrived, including transport to the hotel in Cusco. The Incan journey began with an all-day tour of Sacred Valley. This was a wonderful experience; allowing us to acclimate to the altitude (we were coming from sea level). In addition, we began to learn more about the Incan culture; lessons you will receive throughout the journey (thank you, William Wallace). As for the trek itself, the food and equipment were both first rate. Because of their years of experience and local knowledge, Ian and his team know the best places to camp. The staff set up a dining tent for each meal. The ability and dedication of the porters was truly amazing. The quality of food they generate from small camp stoves was hard to believe. Although we brought along snacks for the trail, the food was so plentiful and nourishing we never felt the need for them. Our group of 12 or so consisted of hikers of varying speeds and skill levels. For example, several of the hikers in our group were much younger than myself. Ian and his lead guides were masterful at managing the group along the trail; allowing each trekker to travel at their own pace. Also, a word about safety on the trial. Ian is a world-class alpinist; with many 20,000+ climbs to his credit, including the summit of Everest. He believes in safety first and that shows in his team’s management of his treks. Fresh water is always provided, rest room facilities are provided at camp and careful attention is given to pace and the physical condition of all trekkers in his care. We have found Ian Taylor Trekking treks are of high value. We will certainly steer anyone we know who expresses interest in destinations such as EBC, Kilimanjaro or Machu Picchu to the only company they should consider- Ian Taylor Trekking.
My review of Kilimanjaro from Feb 7, 2018 still appears below, but I wanted to add an update to that review. In early October I returned from a second trip with Ian Taylor Trekking. I had signed up for a 3 week trip to Everest Base Camp followed by a climb to the summit of Island Peak/Imja Tse. Landing closely on the heels of the Africa trip, my expectations for Ian Taylor's team in Nepal were high. And I'm happy to report that expectations were met or exceeded in every instance. From the moment I was met at the airport in Kathmandu every aspect of the trip ran smoothly. The descriptions of what I would encounter on the trek and climbs were accurate. The training recommendations I had been given proved to be spot-on for the physical condition I would need to be in for the journey. And the ease with which the team checked in for lodging and meals each day after long treks at high altitude was commendable. Foremost though, was safety. The Ian Taylor Trekking professionals made sure we acclimatized at the proper rate for the altitudes we were to face. We often saw other individuals and groups encountering altitude-related issues. But that did not occur within our team. Prior to climbing Island Peak we spent a couple of required days brushing up (or learning anew) our mountaineering skills. By the time we put on crampons and roped up at the base of the glacier that leads to the summit, our guides were certain that we had the technical and physical ability to cross the glacier and to use jumars to go up (and more importantly, be able to abseil down) the headwall of the mountain. The entire team of 7 summited and returned safely a few days later to Kathmandu for some relaxation in an excellent hotel (again booked by Ian Taylor Trekking) before returning home. I want to add something here that also makes Ian Taylor's groups special. In our Island Peak team of 7 there was an American (me), an Englishman, a couple of Irishmen (one originally from Poland), a Korean, an Australian, and a Sri Lankan/Australian. Also, in our combined teams (which included another 8 people who were doing the Everest Base Camp Trek, but not Island Peak), additional nationalities included Spaniards and a Mexican. The diversity of people who join Ian Taylor Trekking trips is part of what makes them, at least for me, extra special. To be able to trek and climb in these places and experience the surroundings through the shared perspectives on an international team is simply priceless. Ian Taylor Trekking continues to be the first company that I would choose in terms of quality, consistency, community, and most importantly safety - when heading into the mountains to trek or climb. Below is my earlier review of my Kilimanjaro trip. I returned from Tanzania just over a week ago having completed a trip that included, among other things, a successful summit of Kilimanjaro - all thanks to Ian Taylor Trekking. It was my first time in Africa. The trip was incredibly well-organized. We were met at the airport in Arusha by professional and friendly senior staff. I had requested to do a side trip prior to heading to the mountain. That trip - a tour of a coffee plantation - was arranged and run in a way that made me instantly grateful for my decision to go with Ian Taylor Trekking. The professionalism and planning that went into the 8 days on Kilimanjaro is hard to quantify. Every expectation I had (and many things that had never crossed my mind) was met. During the trip, our exposure to the people and culture, the flora and fauna, the food, and the different climate zones all served to make the experience a real joy. The daily briefings and information greatly enhanced my understanding of, and ability to perform well at, increasingly high altitude. By the time we crossed 15,000ft for the first time I was much more exhilarated than concerned - all the result of careful planning and preparation on the part of Ian Taylor and his team. .
My husband and I took three trips with Ian Taylor Trekking: the first time to Nepal Namche Bazaar + Poon Hill in 2017, the second one to Kilimanjaro in 2018, the last one to Everest Base Camp in April/May 2019. These three trips were all beyond our expectations. From the moment of our arrival, Ian Taylor Trekking took care of every aspects of our treks: not only for meals, drinks, lodging, and porters, but also for oxygen and physical conditions checkups, acclimatization to high altitude and safety. By following Ian Taylor's instructions, we were able to acclimatize very well, with little or no use of Diamox, and to enjoy the summit of Kilimanjaro, EBC and all the rest. Ian Taylor Trekking is the first and only company that we trust, recommend and will choose for high mountains trekking and climbing.
I climbed Kilimanjaro with Ian Taylor Trekking in July 2022 and cannot recommend them enough! The level of support from the team is next to none - I would have absolutely not made it to the summit without everyone in the team. Each of the porters/guides are so attentive and helpful. For example, Saidi, Amani and Francis noticed I didn't like a certain ingredient in the food so the chefs and assistant cooks started preparing separate dishes without that ingredient specifically for me. When we got to higher altitudes, my air mattress would be inflated by the time I got to camp - thanks Jorah! The team's help and support starts from the moment you land in Kilimanjaro International Airport - shoutout to Edwin who drove me from the airport to Arusha and gave me a tour of the city when I arrived. I intend to use Ian Taylor Trekking for more trips!
The Mount Kilimanjaro Expedition, lead by Ian Taylor, was nothing short of spectacular. The entire staff of the Ian Taylor Trekking Group made the week long climb a memory never to be forgotten. I am hoping to do another expedition next year with this incredible group. Many thanks to Ian and his entire team. I am grateful for the incredible memories.
This group is an accumulation of professionals that want to show you a good time while helping you achieve your goal in climbing the Mountain safely Their care of the individual is the most telling . The guides to a person were friendly and helped you every way possible . The food was plentiful and very good .The equipment was first rate. The views , the trail , the different cultures the animals on the safari WoW. It was the best trip I ever have taken period. Mt Kilimanjaro has to be on your bucket list with Ian Taylor Trekking. Take the 8 day route , it’s the best for acclimating , seeing the Mountain, enjoying the guides and your other hikers from around the world .Pole Pole. As they say.
I’ve been on two Ian Taylor Trekking trips now, one in the Himalayas and now just completed the Kilimanjaro climb. Both have been examples of trips organized and executed perfectly. Ian and the teams he has put together around the world are top notch, passionate, and people oriented. I’ve been exploring, hiking, and mountaineering for over 20 years and trust Ian’s trips to show me the most intelligent, safest, most comfortable, and highest probability of success experiences around the world. I would strongly suggest considering Ian’s organization when investing your precious dollars, time, and safety on a trip. I will be on many more in the future.
We just completed the Lemosho route climbing Kilimanjaro. It was amazing. I could not think of anything to make it better. The whole team was like a family and care about their work. The guides were knowledgeable and patient. The strategy to help everyone win and make it to the top is spot on. Was beyond expectations. Thank you Team!!!
I climbed Mount Kilimanjaro in Aug 2022 with ITT via the Lemoshe 8-day route. The entire climbing team successfully summitted, and the support was excellent. I have taken similar climbs with other companies and would highly recommend ITT. They are professional, supportive and fun. First, ITT is focused on safety and success. They set a very slow pace that makes acclimation possible and increases the likelihood of success. I will admit to thinking a slow pace was "overly cautious" before beginning the trek. However, along the trip we passed several groups that had passed us at a quick pace and couldn't keep it up. Don't underestimate the wisdom of ITT on this one! Also, they take oxygen levels every morning and evening to ensure each climber is acclimating and staying healthy. Along the trek the guides frequently remind you to drink water, and they do daily check-ins to ensure you are drinking the required amount of water each day to stay hydrated and support acclimation. You will feel safe climbing with ITT. Second, the support to climber ratio is 5 to 1 (at least for our group). Kili doesn't use animals for transport, so more human porters are required than on other mountains, but this ratio is still amongst the best on the mountain. The support team was professional, experienced, very positive and was clearly a cohesive group. I was particularly impressed with how long some support staff have been with ITT (10+ years), and how proud many were at having moved up in the "ranks" with the company. You got the sense that they really are a family. The support team didn't miss a beat - from timely wake up calls with tea, hot water for washing, camp set up and break down, amazing meals, and even a serenade or two. Many went the extra mile to help with anything you needed or wanted. You will feel supported climbing with ITT. Third, the lead guide - Athumani - is very, very good. The ITT website talks a lot about Athumani being Kili's number one guide for 2019. This isn't a "vote for me" type of award. It is a competitive process conducted by the national park organization. It is the equivalent of a peer review/award based on technical knowledge, skill and performance. Another place to not underestimate what ITT provides! Athumani is a great logistician, a kind (but firm) manager, an inspirational leader and a whole lot of fun! The assistant guides for our trip Amani and Max are hot the tails of catching their "boss" as future number one guides! You will have fun climbing with ITT. Again, I've taken other climbs (e.g., Everest Base Camp, Mount Rainier, Salkantay/Machu Picchu) with other companies. ITT is at the top in terms of safety, support and enjoying the experience. They have my strongest recommendation.
Dear Ian , I express my deepest gratitude to you and your staff for making my dream come true. My husband and I were able to successfully summit Mt. Kilimanjaro with all your help and guidance. Your team was there in every step of our way, including food, setting up tents and helping us with each and every step while we climbed five diverse climate zones. I also appreciate you explaining us the flora and fauna while we climbed different terrains. Your skilled staff were very kind, encouraging, supportive and helpful every minute of the climb. I value all the tips you and your staff gave me and for boosting my confidence. Our heartfelt appreciation to your chef as good plays a very vital role during this journey. He fed us not only yummy and healthy food but also cooked with special care and hygiene as we ate only vegetarian food. Soups he fed us each meal were different and delicious. He would not share his recipes though. I also thank our fellow hikers who were very kind and supportive to each other. I also appreciate the comprehensive advise on packing list, your packing video and checking for the appropriate gears we have, a day before we start our mission. You planned the route very well. We had excellent acclimatization meticulously organized summit night made us achieve our goal easy, memorable, adventurous and once in lifetime experience. We have memories and pictures with you all to cherish for life. We also thank your wife Laura for organizing our safari trip. We enjoyed it thoroughly. We couldn't have done this without you Ian. Thanks again and Best wishes Veena Vadmal
Climbed Kilimanjaro with Ian Taylor Trekking. I cannot speak more highly of their entire operation on Kili and their staff. They have the best guides, porters and staff. The itinerary was also great to help you get to the summit. I would highly recommend Ian Taylor Trekking.
Amazing, terrific, wonderful, and great are all words used to describe trips with Ian Taylor Trekking. For me, the experience is much deeper than words can express. A paragraph simply cannot adequately express my experience. All details of my trek/climb of Mount Kilimanjaro, Everest Base Camp, and Island Peak were taken care of by Ian's teams who genuinely cared for me and worked hard to ensure my success. This allowed me to concentrate on the experience, not the details or logistics. What words could I use to describe my experience? I can think of only two - exceptional and incomparable. You will not find a more exceptional or capable team on any adventure. I've seen other teams. Ian Taylor Trekking is incomparable. They are so good, they are beyond comparison.
Have taken four treks/climbs with Ian Taylor - EBC, Kilimanjaro, Ecuador and most recently, Aconcagua. Fantastic service and great staff on both trips. Will continue to book future adventure travel with Ian Taylor!
I thought that I was joining this trek simply to try and climb a mountain. I wanted to push myself and see how far I could go. I didn't think of anything else. Ian's company seemed to have the best reviews, so that was that. Looking back on the experience, I don't really think of the mountain at all. Though I reached the summit, it hardly seems important now. What I remember about this trip was the family we all made along the way, the card games, the constant jokes, the songs, dancing, and constant love and support. The energy and vibrancy amongst the team is infectious. I thought that when this hike ended I would be so ready to move on and be done. I thought I would feel relief and exhaustion. Though I found the opposite to be true. Instead I was in a state of grief that this journey had come to a close and that I would have to say goodbye to the people who I had grown to love so much. If you're contemplating companies, please look no further. This was one of the single greatest experiences of my life, and that had little to do with Kilimanjaro and is entirely about the people who make this trek possible. So thank you Ian Taylor Trekking, for I will look back on this and smile for years to come. I love you guys!
I climbed Kilimanjaro with Ian in January 2021 and Ian Taylor Trekking is by far my first recommendation when anyone inquires with me about any type of trekking or climbing trips. I had never done anything like this before and Ian was incredibly helpful, informative, and responsive in training and preparation for the trip. The trip was incredibly well organized and we were all well accommodated and always taken care of. Safety is their number one priority and it shows! Ian personally led the trip I was on and he was a ton of fun and has tons of great stories to tell. I ended up turning around on summit night due to a large combination of things after making it to around 17,300 feet, and the team made sure that I was taken care of on my decent. If just a few things out of my control had happened differently I would have made it to the top, but that’s the way of the mountains sometimes! All it leaves me with is a desire to return to Tanzania and get to the summit! And there is no one I’d rather do that with than Ian Taylor Trekking!!
I have made several climbs with Ian Taylor Trekking and they are by far the very best guides I’ve ever climbed with. Each and every experience has been well above anything I expected. Every detail was covered from the preparation to the post travel. Amazing people, amazing support team. I just got back from Kilimanjaro and they have the best team on the mountain. The staff there is highly skilled and highly engaged. They are so loyal to Ian and Laura Taylor and that really comes out. You want to be with people who are highly skilled and enthusiastic-and Ian Taylor Trekking is by far on the top of the list.
The Sleep at Everest Base Camp (EBC) trek with Ian Taylor Trekking (ITT) team in March 2021 showed me the competence and compassion of the ITT team. The EBC trek went so well that when I decided to climb Kilimanjaro, chose ITT without any hesitation. My expectations were high, based on my experience during the EBC trek. ITT team not only surpassed my expectations, but also raised the bar much higher. Making Arusha the base for the hike is a great decision (Moshi is the other option). We stayed at Four Points Sheraton which provided a glimpse of African landscape and hospitality. The staff, services, facility, and food were superb. ITT team at Arusha made frequent visits to the hotel to help us settle down and navigate through the pre-trip formalities. We were a group of 18 and most of us arrived a few days before the trek. We used the Lemosho route. ITT team has planned it well and it is a winner. The 8-day program offers excellent acclimatization by climbing high and sleep low. This also offers stunning views of the valleys along the way and thrilling views of Kilimanjaro. It would be hard to explain, in words, the support and guidance that was provided (24X7) before and during the trek. The ITT team is the best. They offered a helping hand every step of the way. It seems like they never have a bad day. They woke us up in the morning with a smile, served us with a smile, cheered us up on the climbs, and welcomed us back at the camp each day with a musical ensemble. Their valuable guidance and support made it possible for all 18 of us (30+ to 70+ age group) to reach the summit in the anticipated time. It was rough to say goodbye, so we all said see you soon at the end of the trek. We were all amazed every time we saw the food that was served each day. Hats off to the kitchen team for their culinary skills and presentation. The multi-course meals were not just super delicious, but also nutritive. Our group had the privilege of climbing Kilimanjaro with Ian Taylor. He is a complete leader who leads from the front, center and back. He made sure every member of the team, including the ITT staff, is happy and healthy during every step of the way. His knowledge and expertise made it easier for all of us to accomplish our mission of reaching the summit of Kilimanjaro. ITT TEAM THANK YOU FOR YOUR UNWAVERING SUPPORT.
I HIGHLY RECOMMEND Ian's 8 day Lemosho Route if you're planning to climb Kilimanjaro. Ian's awesome team of guides and porters took such good care of us and got us safely to the top! The extra day to acclimate made all the difference in the world for me (compared with a previous trek up Kili on the Rongai Route). Ian knows this mountain - he's been up it dozens of times. He has the best guides, porters, and gear. The tents didn't leak in the rain and held up in VERY strong winds at 16k feet! The food - wow - so many delicious soups! Loved the grilled cheese, french fries, crepes, veggies, pepper steak, chicken, popcorn - I could go on and on about the food. Also - leading up to the trek we had excellent communication with Laura...and Ian was so accessible, available via phone and even did a Zoom with our group. I wish I could give him 10 stars!!
Update: Just back from climbing Kilimanjaro with Ian and his team in Tanzania in January 2022. This time I took both kids (in 20s) and my wife. What a first class operation that involved 9 guides for 17 clients and about 60-70 porters. The weather and CV19 challenges were no issue for his well trained team. Thank you for a most memorable experience with my entire family! Hiked to EBC with college aged son in 2019. Ian and his team did an outstanding job managing the trek especially given some challenging weather at the beginning of the adventure trying to get from Kathmandu to Lukla. Would highly recommend Ian and his team for any trek.
This was my first time camping ever and first time mountain climbing ( I know go big or go home :) and thank goodness I chose Ian Taylor trekking for the Mount Kilimanjaro summit. The fantastic crew was taking care of us every day and night encouraging us, keeping us safe and well, and finally made us summit successfully. If anyone wants to safely summit ……………the Ian Taylor trekking is the way. The chief guide Athumani makes sure you get acclimatized well and the assistant guides Amani, Antony, Moses, Shibhani and Lord Nelson work in unison with the chief guide to keep you safe and motivated to reach your goal to summit successfully, safely and well. Summit night was real tough for me and at 4.30 am I wanted to give up and just go to sleep on the mountain but Amani who is so kind picked me up literally looked me straight in my eyes and said I needed to walk the next one hour and half and that he would carry my backpack. I somehow found the strength and with the motivation from Amani I made it to summit. Also for each trekker there was a guide so the ratio was 1:1.What is impossible for man is definitely possible for God. My daughter started vomiting on the way to base camp and again Amani and Antony were assigned by the chief guide Athumani to take care of her and trek with her slowly but steadily and at her pace till she reached base camp safely. I am so impressed with the 60 people of the Ian Taylor team who were in charge of setting up the tents and mattresses, cooking, carrying our luggage and cleaning the toilets, and taking care of our every need. They are wonderful kind people and their only goal is for us to summit successfully. The trek was tough but with the right positive team the mission was successful. Thank you to each and every one of you 60 people who did an amazing job.
I climbed the Kilimanjaro on February 2020, and Island Peak on 2023 with Ian Taylor Trekking It was an amazing experience! The attention to details and safety was beyond any expectation. Highly recommend!! Looking forward to many more adventures…….. with Ian Taylor Trekking of course.
This was my second time climbing Kilimanjaro but my first time with Ian Taylor, and my trip was 10 times better than the last. The team is absolutely fantastic and so supportive, and the food was excellent. They are great about gauging your skill and comfort levels to set the right pace. Would recommend this company to anyone trying to climb Kili, but especially for those with less experience.
I climbed Kilimanjaro with Ian Taylor Trekking in February 2017 and I’m talking about it since then, as it was one of the best experiences of my life ( so far). Advice and tips pre expedition were excellent from gear to training... The trip itself was impeccably planned with trekkers health and well-being at the top of the agenda. I climbed with a great group of fellow Irish men and women and all 20 of us made the summit. The porters were exceptional, greeting us with singing and dancing when we arrived at the more challenging camps, helping us along the way, ensuring that we summited. A big shout out to Athumani Njuki. Himself and Ian were fantastic. I would highly recommend Ian and his team and look forward to my next adventure. Phillipa Carney
I climbed Kilimanjaro with Ian Taylor Trekking, they are a highly-skilled, professional outfit who ensured my group felt confident and supported from start to finish. Anyone who is thinking of a hiking adventure should research Ian Taylor Trekking first.
Our experience with Twende Africa Tours was great! They’re very serious and professional. I climbed Mount Kilimanjaro with my partner and the Twende team was amazing. From preparing food daily, to supporting us during the hikes and summit day. The vibe was always great! The team was very transparent and communicative, and respected our physical limits - safety was always a priority. We had several conversations during the hike and it was a great way to learn more about the local culture. We warmly recommend Peter and Twende to anyone going to Tanzania!
Can’t thank Peter enough for making our experience seamless from start to finish. From picking us up at airport to reorganising flights to checking in with our guides on our welfare during our adventures, Peter made our experience easy and enjoyable. The Kilimanjaro team; Eli, Ephata and the 9 others were awesome. A very experienced crew whose priority was our safety and well-being, there was always a friendly greeting from all the guys on our arrival at camp. From epic 5 minute morning singing send offs, all the porters stoping when they passed us to chat and laugh, rockstar treatment of food deliveries, boot cleaning at days end, morning bed tea/coffee, constant motivational singing when the climb got tough to all the boys teaching us Swahili there’s too much to list all that they did to make this trip so memorable. As mentioned earlier, very experienced guides who after ensuring we summited safely, assisted other groups who were suffering from altitude sickness. So thank you Eli, Ephata, Richie, Seb, Yahaya, Masanja, Ramsu Goeg, Babuu, Zawadi and Yula you all made this a trip of a lifetime. Pasiace our Safari guide was very experienced, knew where to find all the animals and drove around tirelessly to keep to our tight schedule. Also more than happy to chat and educate us over dinner and beer at days end, thanks Pasiace If you’re considering a trip to Tanzania send Peter and Twende a message, you won’t regret it. He only uses local experiences guides and honestly the team we went with is what made our trip so memorable.
Professional service with friendly environment. During my 7days Kilimanjaro climbing, I've got a great service to ensure my safety and comfortable. Eli and the team provide more than enough food for everyday and also monitor high altitude sickness everyday after dinner. After finish climbing I was transport to safari tour which is is a great experience. Once in a lifetime you should be with this team. ASANTE SANA. Peter, Eli, Richard, Sebastian, Kadawa, Patrick and Issa, my best dancer. TOTA OHANA BADAI <3
Took on climbing Kilimanjaro for my 30th Birthday. Route: Machame. 5 nights, 6 days. Twende Safaris helped me plan the trip, and was very attentive to my needs and requests and questions. Peter is an attentive listener, and very kind. He and his team made my birthday very special, and the hike relatively easy, fun and enjoyable! I would recommend this company over and over again. They give the best of Tanzanian Hospitality. Worth every penny!
We had an wonderful time climbing Kilimanjaro with Twende Africa. Peter was extremely helpful and it was very easy to book and organize our trip online from the USA. When we arrived in Tanaznia we were picked up at the airport and briefed before starting our climb the next day. Our guides, porters and cook were all amazing and made the climb excellent fun. Not just a great hike, but also a cultural experience with amazing food! We finished our climb a day early and Peter took as on a free city tour in Moshi on our extra day. I would recommend Twende Africa to anyone!
My trekking experience to Kilimanjaro as solo girl traveler was extraordinary thanks To Twende Tours... I felt really comfortable and in friendly atmosphere with all team: guide, porters and cook. Peter, thé guide, is passionnated in climbing and he knows every route and all about this amazing mountain. I highly recommend this company wether you are solo, duo or family traveller. They made my travel unic and I even learn lot or Swahili language with them. Pole Pole, Hakuna Matata, they challenged me and I got the peak even with some headhache and asthma 🙏🙏🙏. They are just amazing and trustful.
Myself, my daughter, and a close friend climbed Kilimanjaro with Peter and Rashidi as our guides we give them 5+ Stars for their knowledge as guides and their friendly way of taking care of our needs. Peter speaks good English and communication was easy with him. If it wasn’t for Peter helping carry my friends pack on summit night my friend would not have made it to the top. Peter also arranged a safari for us after the hike to Tangeri and Ngorongoro national parks that were exceptional - the accommodations were amazing. Highly recommend him. You can waste so much time trying to find the right people for your trip to Tanzania - and there probably are other good companies out there, but you will not find any better person to deal with than Peter.
My partner and I had a wonderful experience throughout the climb. Our guides, Peter and Godlisten were extremely helpful and we really enjoyed spending time getting to know them! They made sure we had all the gear needed and were comfortable as can be. The climb itself was very difficult, especially since we only had 5 days, but it was worth the effort. Kilimanjaro was beautiful and it was cool to go through different climate zones. Our guides were also very knowledgeable and excited to share information about the mountain and the species in the area. You could easily tell how passionate they were about Tanzania and Kilimanjaro itself. We came back early since I experienced altitude sickness but it was still one of the coolest things I've done. I would definitely recommend them for anyone considering climbing Kilimanjaro. You won't be disappointed!
I can't say enough about how supportive Peter and his team were on my journey to Uhuru peak. I definitely recommend booking with Peter and his team if you plan to trek Kilimanjaro. They were knowledgeable, kind, and very attentive at every step of the climb. I would not have made it to the summit without their support. If you do plan to book the trek, make sure tip is discussed beforehand as it can be a bit pricey, especially for smaller groups. If you are able to book far enough in advance to join a group, splitting tip will be easier. It was an unforgettable journey & experience - many thanks to Twende & Peter for making it possible!
Climbing Kilimanjaro with Twende Africa Tours has been one of the best experiences in my life. Peter and his team did their best to get us to the top of Africa. My boyfriend and I enjoyed every single day of this trip. Food was great and perfectly selected to get the right energy. Our guides knew what to do in every situation for us to keep strong and positive. We had a great time with the Twende team.
We had a wonderful time in Africa! Hotels were very nice, as well as the staff. Every staff member, guides and porters always had a smile on their face. When we stopped everything was quickly set up for us to rest and eat. We even has a toilet tent which was a very good investment! Climb was awesome, we made it up in 6 days and down in 2. I would highly recommend Kili trips tz for anyone who is planning to climb Kilimanjaro!!
KILELE Climb is a Tanzanian climbing agencie with a great Spirit and soul. Alex and his team were almost on the edge of perfection. Evething went pretty well. We were able to achieve our goal, summit the Kilimanjaro because of Alex and his team. The food, the porters and the Guide Frankie, Andre and ALEX help me a lot the achieve my dreamcast. I will always be grateful.
My two friends and I had an amazing time climbing Mt Kilimanjaro with Kili Trips! This was a 7-days trip on Machame route. Dismas and his team were very professional, always in a good mood, and provided an excellent service. They know everything about that mountain and they made sure that all of us were safe at all time. Food was excellent and tents were very confortable. They made our visit to Mt Kilimanjaro very special and the favorite part of our Tanzanian experience. I highly recommend Kili Trips, without any hesitation.

Alpenglow Expeditions

via Tripadvisor
This June, I organized a group of 11 climbers to hike Mount Kilimanjaro with Alpenglow Expeditions. Our experience was phenomenal. From the moment we stepped foot on the trail, the guides and porters took care of us in a way that I’ve never experienced on a mountain. Our lead guide, Topo, was an absolute rock star. His mountaineering experience is second to none, but, more importantly, he immediately integrated into our group in a way that felt like we’d been friends for years. That made the experience all the more special. Before we started the hike, I developed a low grade fever and a cough. I thought I would get over it within the first few days, but it continuously got worse. After our first night at high camp (15,500 ft elevation) I was unable to walk unassisted and began coughing blood. When that happened, Topo and the guides took decisive action to get me off the mountain. They organized a helicopter evacuation to take me to the nearest hospital, sending Sylvester - a phenomenal local guide - with me to make sure I could navigate the hospital and get the care I needed. I don’t know what I would have done if Sylvester hadn’t been there with me. The helicopter dropped me off at the airstrip in Moshi, but there were no taxis or Ubers to be had. I also had all of my gear from the mountain, which I couldn’t carry by myself in that state. With the help of Florent, our main local logistics guide, Sylvester quickly organized a ride to the hospital, stayed there with me for about 8 hours, and helped me negotiate payment and services with the hospital providers. It turns out I had pneumonia and high altitude pulmonary edema (HAPE), so they got me on oxygen and antibiotics. Once I was able to leave, Sylvester organized a ride back to our hotel in Arusha so I could get some rest. All told, it took about 12 hours from the time the helicopter arrived to the time we got to the hotel. I’ve traveled all over the world, worked my way out of some pretty precarious situations, but again, given the state I was in I genuinely don’t know what I would have done without Sylvester’s help. He was a phenomenal guide on the mountain - constantly encouraging me when I was struggling and doing everything he could to support, and he was incredibly calm and friendly under pressure. If you’re looking to climb Mt. Kilimanjaro and you want to make sure you’re in the best hands, climb with Alpenglow, ask for Topo, ask for Sylvester, and ask for Florent. You won’t have a better, safer experience anywhere else!

My 17 year old son and I climbed Kilimanjaro with Alpenglow Expeditions in July 2022. Alpenglow went above and beyond what I was expecting! The logistics, food, and lodging were all exceptional. Our guide, Chad, was professional, supportive, and went to great lengths to make sure that everyone was as comfortable (as one can be at 19,000 ft.). My son’s luggage was lost on the flight from the US. The in-country team and Chad immediately made a great plan B. We rented gear for my son and then two days later porters ran up the mountain and delivered my son’s gear to him. It was a huge effort that we greatly appreciated! I would highly recommend Alpenglow!

Having never climbed a mountain, nor slept outside, summiting Kilimanjaro seemed like a far fetched goal. However, WHOA was so reassuring and organized I hardly had to think. From the pre arrival packing lists and group text thread making sure no one forgot anything to getting there and meeting everyone at the airport it was flawless logistics and execution from day 1. I never felt unprepared, I was never unsure about what the plan was. Additionally, and I know this was by coincidence, the group of women I had the pleasure of spending almost 2 weeks with continues to text many many months later. Amazing, strong, encouraging, inspirational, kind travel companions. The WHOA gals and guides on the trail were remarkable. Everyone was compassionate, and phenomenal cheerleaders, but also funny and FUN to be with. The food we ate can’t be forgotten. I had no idea fried chicken, fries and watermelon would be an option up there, how amazing is that? Of my group of 16 we had 16 reach the top! That’s not a coincidence, that’s WHOA and their team pushing us and making sure we safely got there! I would 100% recommend booking an excursion with WHOA, I have been in contact with my Kili group and we are all trying to get another adventure on the books. You will not regret going outside your comfort zone, you will be in amazing hands.
This is the best company to go with. Me and my fiance just finished the climb of Kilimanjaro in Aug 2024. I saw many people struggling with fonds, equipment, their guide and other problems. We had ZERO issues. Everything was perfect. We ate well, the company was very clear about direction and provided us with everything we needed and even help after with our other SAFARI plans & Zanzibar. My guide name was Fred and if you are going, you will see how Fred will take care of you. He is the sweetest and most kind! Without my guide, I would have probably end up like the other visitors and going back down before reaching the summit. I 100% recommend this company! Andrew & Fred are the best
Our experience with this company was amazing! We did the 7-day trek up Kilimanjaro and were extremely well taken care of. The guides were very professional and knowledgeable, the food was great, and Andrew made sure that things went smoothly before and after the climb. I would highly recommend them!
Right from the airport pickup, these guys were on it. Super helpful in making sure I had the right gear and super flexible with the trip timing. The guides? Absolutely great - funny, charismatic, and all about making our trip special. Food was delish and the accommodations, especially the glamping on the safari, were top-notch - better than many city hotels. Climbing Kilimanjaro was epic, even though I didn't make it to the top due to altitude sickness. The views? Incredible. The safari was a standout - saw loads of animals, including those hard-to-spot rhinos. Felt safe the whole time, thanks to the guides who really prioritized our safety. Would totally recommend these guys for anyone looking to do Kilimanjaro and the Serengeti. Truly unforgettable!
Andrew organized our wonderful 2 day safari and the Kilimanjaro climb, but he was also there to reassure us and do the right thing when I needed a doctor between the 2 activities. He didn't hesitate for a second and he knew what to do. He gave us peace of mind before, during and after this wonderful stay. Fred is a guide with over 20 years of experience who we nicknamed our mountain goat.
Small Tanzanian owned company. Andrew personally lives in Arusha. We climbed Kilimanjaro via Lemosho route, 7 days + 1 Sabbath day in Baranco camp. Private group because of some personal needs. Andrew and team were wonderful. When our luggage didn't arrive for 4 days, he loaned us equipment to start hiking, and the arranged porters to carry up luggage to Baranco. He went to the airport multiple times to pick up our luggage when it finally arrived. He changed multiple arrangements as we needed. He also made us a hotel reservation near the airport on the way out. Separately He also arranged a safari for us, Serengeti, Tarangire, and Ngorongoro.
We were two people who did three trips with Kilimanjaro Tanzanite Safaris; a four-day camel safari in Enduimet, the Great Rift Valley to Lake Natron trek in four days and climbed Kilimanjaro in 7 days via the Lemosho route. We were generally very happy with the company. The company owner Andrew always answered our questions quickly and thoroughly, and he always joined us at the beginning and end of each trip which felt very reassuring. We were also very happy with all our team members during our trips as they were always nice, funny and good at listening to our needs and making sure that we had the best trip possible. Our only comment is that it would have been nice to having been able to rent warmer sleeping bags for mt. Kilimanjaro from the company than the ones we got, but other than that we were very happy with the service. All in all, we were very happy with both the price for the trips and the service. Thank you so much!
We went climbed Kilimanjaro along the Machame route for 7 days using Kilimanjaro Tanzanite Safaris. We also took a 4 day safari. Both experiences were amazing. Andrew was professional, responsive, and helped us prepare thoroughly. Our guides on Kilimanjaro were top notch and made the experience wonderful. The food exceeded all expectations! Our safari guide was likewise fantastic and fun to be with. Overall, this was one of the best experiences we've ever done. Can't recommend them enough!
I traveled as a solo female to Africa to hike Kilimanjaro with Kilimanjaro Tanzanite Safaris. My experience was wonderful in countless ways! First, the communication between myself and Andrew at the company prior to the trip was very clear and helpful. I was picked up at the airport and communicated via WhatsApp once I arrived in Tanzania. I felt safe and welcome immediately. I was taken to my hotel and to a local restaurant for a late night meal since I arrived on the last flight of the night. The following day the company arranged a short trek to Materuni Falls and a tour of a family owned coffee farm. On this tour I ate with the family, grounded coffee beans “the local way” and sang songs. This experience brought so much joy to my heart. I loved that I was able to immerse myself into the culture and have such an intimate experience with a local family. The next day I was able to see the town of Moshi, shop, eat locally and work on the last preparations for my solo trek up Kilimanjaro. The company arranged a meeting with the guide for a gear check prior to the climb. This was very helpful. Then came the hike! I hiked solo up the mountain rather than in a group. The experience was tailored to my wants and needs. The trip was custom made. I did a six day trek via the Machame route. I felt comfortable and well taken care of. There were many different trekking companies and groups at the camps. The company set-up my wonderful guide and amazing porters. They carried all the gear up the mountain. I only carried my day pack during the hike and my guide helped me at times. The team was friendly & helpful. The warm meals were large, yummy and kept me going. They set up hot water every morning and had my tent set-up by the time I ended my hikes daily. The guide went at a perfect pace. He also kept me hydrated and made sure I was in good health condition throughout the hike. I made so many friends on the mountain and enjoyed the nature so much! My guide was experienced and knowledgeable. I loved how authentic the experience was. I felt like I was in Africa trekking up Kilimanjaro with locals. I made it to Uhuru peak of Kilimanjaro on the 5th day and came down the mountain on the 6th by 3pm. If you are looking for a true authentic experience use Kilimanjaro Tanzanite Safaris! I recommend them. I loved that it wasn’t a super fancy cookie cutter experience. It was affordable, met all my needs and exceeded my expectations. I am forever grateful for the care and preparation that went into my trip by this company. I want to thank Andrew for going above and beyond with the hike, local shopping, tours and the safari.
Mount Kenya - Batian summit - Unique experience, super organization by TranquilKilimanjaro My trip through East Africa was crowned by a breathtaking hike up Mount Kenya. Instead of climbing Kilimanjaro, I opted for the quieter Mount Kenya. The summit offers both a trek to 4,985 meters above sea level and two climbing peaks: Nelion and Batian. I was able to experience a wonderful trek around Mount Kenya and even climb up the beautiful granite rocks to the summit. Our trek started in Naro Moru, and after a restful night at Met Station (3,050 m above sea level), we reached Mackinderscamp (4,300 m above sea level) on the second day. After another night at Shiptons Camp (4,200 m above sea level) and careful planning with Castol, we climbed the impressive Batian peak on the fifth day. The 20-hour climb was absolutely breathtaking and an unforgettable experience. After a well-deserved rest on the sixth day, we returned to Naro Moru on the seventh day. My trip ended with a warm shower and a certificate presented to me by Castol in Nairobi. Castol was an outstanding guide and I highly recommend the experience with him.
An Unforgettable Adventure: Conquering Mount Meru with Tranquil Kilimanjaro: Climbing Mount Meru with Tranquil Kilimanjaro was an extraordinary experience. Their professional guides were knowledgeable and supportive, ensuring a safe and enlightening journey. The wildlife sightings along the way were a highlight, adding an element of wonder to the trek. Our cook impressed us with delicious meals, vital for our daily hikes. The friendly atmosphere created by the team made us feel like a family, adding to the overall enjoyment. In summary, Tranquil Kilimanjaro provided an unforgettable adventure with their expertise and hospitality, making the Mount Meru climb a must-do for trekking enthusiasts.

We planned our Kilimanjaro climb and safari trip and worked with Charles over a year and he was really informative and easy to work with. Our stay in Moshi with an extra day tour booked at the last minute was great. Our Kilimanjaro guides Jerry and Calvin were gracious and helpful. The food was excellent, even with my vegan needs. Our Kilimanjaro summit climb exceeded all of our expectations. We were really glad we selected the Northern Circuit as the route is less crowded, scenic, and we felt well-prepared for our summit. I would personally only consider this route or the Lemosho route for these reasons. The 5-day Safari in the Tarangire, Serengeti, and Ngorongoro Crater was amazing! We saw all of the animals we hoped to as well as many more. Our driver/guide Michael was really great at spotting the wildlife as well as connecting with other drivers to find where the rarer species were being sighted. Our lodgings were first-class and the food excellent. We had the chance to observe larger groups with international tour companies and were very happy we chose a smaller local company to travel with. I highly recommend Tranquil Kilimanjaro for all of your Tanzania travel plans! They really will get you the bucket-list trip that you are looking for. Thanks again so much Charles, Jerry, Calvin, Michael, and the rest of the crew!

We had the MOST fabulous experience with Tranquil Kilimanjaro and have only praise for all of the staff, guides and crew that we met. Huge shout out to Guides Hamisi and Elias, Chef Jonny (the biggest smile you'll ever see and great chips!) our Waiter Hussain who was amazingly attentive and made us laugh a lot, Abdul, Joseph, Salim, Amili, Ibraham, Alli, James and Elias 2 plus Safari Guide Hamisi and not forgetting Caje (driver extraordinaire) and finally Charles, owners and supreme organisers. We wanted to climb with a local company and were so happy we chose Tranquil, from the start communication with Charles was really great, answering quite a few questions and adapting our itinerary to cope with changing flights. We arrived minus one bag and Charles was just the person we needed to make sure it arrived before our climb. The porters were all treated like family and one of the best memories we will take away is listening to them all laughing in the porters tent at the end of each day, they were all encouraging to us both, never without great smiles and words of support. Chef Jonny produced the most amazing meals, even a cake after we summited, we felt really lucky to have him on the team. Our Guides Hamisi and Elias were brilliant, adapting the pace to suit our needs, we were lucky to have Salim join us as well on summit night and we couldn't have done it without the three of them, we'll be eternally grateful for their help and encouragement. Our safari was perfectly organised with great lodges and we saw far more than we expected, Hamisi our safari guide was really knowledgeable and enthusiastic, we felt really fortunate to have him. Finally hats off to Charles, even though he was really busy he had so much time for us once we arrived, we personally met with him at least 4 times, it was lovely to have him check in to see how things were going and make sure our trip was going to plan. He even organised a trip to local hot springs on our last day as the flight was later in the evening, a fabulous way to end the trip. To sum it all us, Tranquil Kilimanjaro couldn't be faulted and we heartily recommend them to anyone thinking of visiting Tanzania, we miss the team greatly and wouldn't hesitate to use them again if we could.

Charles, Hamisi, and every single guide, cook, and porter on our 7-day Lemosho Route to the Kilimanjaro Summit were nothing short of amazing!! These folks are the most hard working, kind, and motivating group of experts I have ever had the pleasure to meet and travel with. It was incredible to watch them work and their number 1 goal was to get us to the Summit and make it a wonderful experience on an incredibly challenging mountain! The food was also incredibly diverse, delicious, and always plentiful. They always had a smile on their face and truly cared about making this trip a once in a lifetime experience. They were the reason that we made it to the top. I can't say enough about how amazing each and every one of these people are! If you plan on climbing Kilimanjaro, you must consider Tranquil Kilimanjaro as your tour company to make it the best possible experience! I want to thank this team from the bottom of my heart for making the climb achievable and fun! I know that I speak for our entire group when I say thank you for a lifelong wonderful memory and for sharing the beauty of Kilimanjaro and Tanzania. There are other companies out there, but none who will make your trip as wonderful as Tranquil Kilimanjaro! Highly recommended!!!

Our family just finished our climb to the top of Kilimanjaro with Tranquil today (June 19 2025). We had the time of our lives. Our guides (HB and Janeth) were fantastic. They took excellent care of us and went at the pace that worked best for our family (age range 40 - 69). The food (prepared by Chef Shaban) was wonderful and our team of porters (Veronica, Daniel, Donald, Ally, Samson, Salim M., Salim I., Ibra, Elias, Godlisten, Pinniel, Amiri, Ruben, Jonas, and Erick/Manu:) were fantastic! Everyone at Tranquil had a welcoming, wonderfully friendly personality and treated us with love and respect. By the end of our 8-day journey they felt like family. We would highly recommend this organization. In addition to the accolades mentioned already, Tranquil was very reasonably priced in comparison to the other companies - they also took care of all of our transportation. We have a safari that starts tomorrow that is also arranged through Tranquil. I'm sure it will also be incredible. We highly recommend Charles and his Tranquil Team!

Background We were a group of three (German/Austrian) men looking for a 6-7 day Lemosho route trek up Kilimanjaro. Charles and his company, Tranquil, were highly recommended by a friend who had already climbed with them. Despite booking on short notice—finalizing details just a week before arrival—everything was handled smoothly. We opted for the 7-day Lemosho route with an additional hotel night before and after the hike. Overall Experience Exceptional. From start to finish, the professionalism, organization, and personal touch exceeded our expectations. Arrival & Hotel Charles personally picked us up from the airport. Since we had different flight arrivals, he waited for hours to ensure we could all travel together, minimizing our time on the road. This level of dedication was a sign of the outstanding service we would experience throughout the trip. Booking Process We booked everything remotely from Germany via WhatsApp and phone calls. Charles was always quick to respond, providing clear and detailed information, making the process simple and stress-free. Organization & Logistics We were stunned by how hands-on Charles was. He was personally present to pick us up, welcome us at the hotel, and ensure everything was running smoothly. This level of involvement gave us great confidence in the trip. The Kilimanjaro Team Our team consisted of two experienced guides, one cook, and ten porters. Every single member was highly motivated and dedicated to making our Kilimanjaro experience unforgettable. The support, expertise, and camaraderie of the team played a huge role in our success. Food on Kilimanjaro We had special dietary requests (one vegetarian, one lactose-intolerant), and the chef catered to them perfectly. The food was beyond impressive—omelets, sausages, curries, soups, fresh fruits, pizza, French fries, pasta... The variety and quality were unbelievable, especially considering the altitude! We always had unlimited water, tea, coffee, and hot chocolate. On longer hikes, we received snacks like juice, boiled eggs, bananas, muffins, and cookies. Even now, I can’t understand how the chef managed to prepare such meals in the mountains! Flexibility on the Trek As experienced mountaineers, we requested some flexibility—and we got it. The guides observed our pace and skills, allowing us to overtake slower groups when safe, even in more technical sections. On summit day, we felt strong, so we changed the plan last-minute and summited during the day instead of at night, avoiding the usual crowds. After our successful summit, we decided to finish the trek in six days instead of seven, which was no problem for Tranquil. This adaptability made the trip even better! Last-Minute Safari Since we returned one day early, we asked Charles about safari options and an extra hotel night. As always, he personally showed up with various well-planned options, ensuring we got an amazing deal. Value for Money We were blown away by the professionalism, friendliness, food quality, and overall experience. Considering that over $1,000 of the price goes directly to national park fees, we felt we got excellent value for money. Useful Tips Some of us brought inflatable sleeping pads, and I would bring one next time. Not essential, but it adds extra comfort! Final Thoughts We were not looking for the cheapest provider (even so they offered a great price), but rather a trustworthy, reliable company that delivers high quality. Tranquil exceeded all expectations—a perfect choice for anyone looking to climb Kilimanjaro with confidence. Highly recommended!

* This is a late review I was doing solo trip to Tanzania in September '24 and for sure wanted to have a "sneak peek" of Kilimanjaro. I was looking for a company to do 1day-hike and "Tranquil Kilimanjaro" was the one I chose. They made my experience incredible!! Kaji, the owner of the company, is a super chilled guy and really nice, always ready to help. We were getting all the details easy on Whatsapp and the day started as planed. I did my day hike alone with guide Hamisi through Marangu Route. It was super fun and Hamisi has a lot of knowledge about Kilimanjaro, telling me about all of his experiences. The only thing I regret is not climbing all the way up. For sure I'm going to come back and do it with Tranquil! If you are lost in choosing the company between so many (I was), I just can recommend this one.

We went with Tranquil Kilimanjaro for a 4-day trek on Mount Meru with the whole family and we had a wonderful experience. The admin to book the tour went very smoothly with Charles. Onsite, the whole team was extremely professional and took great care of our family. Our guides Hamisi and Elias were very experienced and supportive and they couldn’t have been more helpful. But also the rest of the team, the cook, the porters, were just fantastic and made us all feel part of “one team, one dream”. We miss their cheerfulness (in particular Hussein’s!) and the nice food and the positive mood. Thank you once more to all! Before going to Tanzania I found it quite difficult to find my way through all websites and tour operators. If you are in the same situation and don’t want to go through a tour operator, then don’t look any further! I can only highly recommend Tranquil Kilimanjaro. And if one day we decide to climb the Kilimanjaro, we’ll definitely go with them again!

Tranquil Kilimanjaro created the most EPIC African adventure from Gorilla Trekking in Uganda to climbing Mt Kenya and Mt Kilimanjaro via the Rongai Route and a 5 day Safari experience. Words cannot express my gratitude to all those involved. Our support team on Kenya were amazing, our head guide George was truly special, his professionalism, passion and knowledge was second to none! And our team for Mt Kilimanjaro were simply the best. One team, one dream. There was never a doubt we would summit Kilimanjaro with these guys. Food was amazing, 3 hot meals per day, private toilet, best camp spots secured. A team that obviously loved what they do - loved their singing, especially on summit night/morning!

My family and I wanted to do a day hike up Mount Kilimanjaro and we had the the most amazing hike with Tranquil Kilimanjaro. From the efficiency from Charles who answered mails immediately in setting up the trip to the guides Ronaldo and Jerry and the driver Cyril who made the day one to remember. It is a full day trip including travel from Arusha .The hike is a fairly gentle one and the scenery is beautiful , we walked to the plateau and returned to stop for lunch at the overnight campsite where climbers and porters were arriving to set up camp .The lunch provided was excellent . The day spent walking with Mount Kilimanjaro in the background was worth every minute , we felt completely taken care of every step of the way. This is hike is really worthwhile and I highly recommend Tranquil Kilimanjaro to guide you Cathy

My trip through East Africa was crowned by a breathtaking hike up Mount Kenya.

I recently climbed Mount Kenya and Mount Kilimanjaro, and I was able to use Tranquil Kilimanjaro for both climbs. They have very experienced teams in both countries to assist you with the climb. The guides are professional and extremely knowledgeable about all things: names of birds, animals, and plants, as well as the history of the mountains. The teams of porters and guides will work hard to make your climb a success. If you are looking to do a safari before or after your climb, they can arrange for an experienced guide to take you to any of the many parks in the area. I would use them again without hesitation, and I strongly recommend you use them as well. You will not be disappointed, I guarantee it.

We are a group of 15 very fit alpinists with pure love for mountaineering. Our 21 day trek to explore only the very best East African Mountains went very well, infact better than we expected. It all started with a few emails and queries to Charles, who by the way was very prompt then we planned our itinerary. After a few changes we agreed to begin with Uganda then Kenya then finish off in Tanzania. So our journey started after landing at Entebbe Airport in Uganda where we proceeded to 2 Friends Beach Hotel before our trek the following day. After a 10 day Rwenzori trek we drove through Jinja to Kisumu then to Nanyuki for our Mount Kenya trek via the Sirimon Route. Mary, the female guide from Tranquil Kilimanjaro was there with us the whole time and we enjoyed her company on the trail till the end of it after she dropped us at Namanga Border to transfer to Moshi for our Kilimanjaro climb. We stayed at Chanya Lodge, a lovely place with swimming pool, nice food and soft music during dinner. We met our guides Elias and Hamis who inspected our equipment once again before setting off for Kili the next Morning climbing via the 8 day Lemosho Route. All these three peaks, we did them with ease, ofcourse there were some segments where we struggled a little bit especially summit day on Kilimanjaro but the team assigned to us were very helpful. We would like to thank everyone that made this long one month tour a reality.

My 6-day hike up Kilimanjaro's Machame route with Tranquil was awesome. Charles was very responsive leading up to my arrival and the tour included both pickup and dropoffs of transportation before and after the hike. During the hike, my guide Kelvin was incredibly helpful, kept a good pace, and looked out constantly for signs of trouble. The porters/chefs were also helpful in providing warm tasty meals and making sure the tent was set up each day at each camp. If you're interested in climbing Kilimanjaro, I highly recommend Tranquil.

My husband & I decided to add climbing Mt. Kilimanjaro to our trip to Africa and I’m so glad we did!!! We had THE most amazing trip & experience that we will cherish for a lifetime🤩!!! And BIG thank you to our Tranquil Kilimanjaro staff that made our summit of Kili successful - couldn’t have done it without them all🙏🏻❤️🤩!!!!! After looking at several companies, we decided to go with Tranquil Kilimanjaro because of several reasons: their prices were very competitive & even lower than most of the competition; Charles Moshi, an owner, was very responsive, friendly, informative & helpful when arranging the trip; and reviews from other customers were very positive. My husband & I were treated like royalty, as well as family, throughout the entire trip, and we really appreciated & enjoyed our 2 fun, fantastic & informative guides, Hamisi & Elias, our amazing cook, John, that provided very tasty soups & meals, our wonderful waiter, Hussen, who was always so friendly, responsive & personable, and, of course, all of our hard-working & friendly porters!! If you’re trying to decide which company to do this amazing trip with look no further - go with Tranquil Kilimanjaro - you will be so glad you did!!!

The climb to Kilimanjaro was a tough one, but with the help of Hamis and Isak our guides it became a spectacular one. It was a great experience with knowing guides who did their absolut best to make sure we had a good time and we were all feeling well. They followed our pace and to help the long walks they offered some friendly small talk which made the time fly by helping us forget about the tough climb we had left. The porters were friendly and really caring for us making it possible us to have an amazing climb with the help of the whole team. I strongly recommend tranquil as a travel agency due to the fact it becomes like you are part of one big family with the bonds and memories you make for life.

I did a solo trip to Tanzania for a week. My goal was to climb Kilimanjaro and to have a day of Safari tour. Tranquil Kilimanjaro arranged everything from the pickup at the airport on the day I landed at JRO to the drop off at the airport on the day I left. They arranged lodging at Moshi and Arusha, the six day Kilimanjaro climb through the Marangu route, and a day at Ngorongoro Crater. Charles was a pleasure to work with the entire way. He was informative and prompt in his communications. The six day Marangu route summit hike for Kilimanjaro involved a six men crew. Everyone was very helpful and I owe the successful summit experience to them. Hamis was the lead guide who oversaw the climb. He was highly professional, knowledgeable, and upbeat. All other members of the crew - Johnny, Hussen, Ali, Ibraa, Eliasi - did a fantastic job and ensured I had everything I needed to summit. The celebration after the summit hike was incredibly fun too - involving singing and dancing. Afterwards, I did a day of Ngorongoro Safari tour with Benjamin. He is a very experienced and knowledgeable guide and I had a lot of fun on the day trip. Overall, I had the time of my life in Tanzania and I’d enthusiastically recommend Tranquil Kilimanjaro to anyone traveling to the area.

My father and I (from NL) successfully hiked the Kilimanjaro and did safari with Tranquil. Can't say enough about how great the experience was. Charles is a great host. The communications and plans were perfect before we traveled to Tanzania. He and Kaji (the driver) picked us up from the airport. We met our guide Hamisi on our way to the lodge, for introduction. The day before we started our climb through the Lemosho route, Hamisi and Charles came by our lodge to check up on us and see if we had all the appropriate gear, as was given to us weeks before we went to Tanzania. It was apparent we were missing 2 items... No problem! Tranquil arranged them for us no problem! The hike overal was tough, but could not have been completed successfully without the help of Hamisi & Elias, our 2 great guides. The entire team of porters + chef were all very friendly and helpful. Everything you would think was not possible to be there was arranged in the mountain: toilet, warm water, very good food and health + safety measurements to make sure everything was ok. The hike was amazing and we can't thank Hamisi, Elias and the porters enough for their support & help. Hamisi and Elias are also very knowledgeable about Flora & Fauna and the history of the mountain + they all speak very good English. This made our successful climb a wonderful experience. After we reached the top, we descended and had 2 days rest. We went on a 4 day safari organized by tranquil as well. Charles and Kaji picked us up and introduced us to our safari guide: Alex. Another gem who works with Tranquil. He showed us the Ngorongoro crater + conservation area, Ndutu planes and the Serengeti. At first we thought we were just lucky, but Alex really was impressive with finding all animals (big 5 + a lot more). He was amazing in getting us close to all sorts of amazing animals and made sure we had an amazing time! The camps we stayed on during the safari were top notch as well, way above expectations! Alex knows a lot about the area and the animals, is funny & friendly and speaks great English. He made sure we had the best of times and all wishes we had (animals we wanted to see and experiencing true nature) were accomplished. Thanks to Tranquil we had an amazing 16 days in Tanzania we will never forget. 100% would recommend to everybody!

Tranquil was honestly 10/10 in their services. They have the most amazing team. We had a successful summit largely due to their experience and guidance. The guides, chefs, porters and entire team are extremely professional and helpful. We highly recommend them to anyone climbing Kilimanjaro.
We did a 5 day Kilimanjaro climbing , everything was sorted out very good , very nice guides and great cooking , big up to the porters who did most of the work , like carrying all the stuff up the mountain ! If u go for climbing the Kilimanjaro don t take less then 6 days , at least u need one day to acclimate ! All in all a wonderful experience Greetings to Elisafi , John , Peter and all the stuff 🤗🌴🇹🇿
I went on a solo trip with Peter for a day trip on the Kilimanjaro. Peter gave a lot of explanations during the climb and adapted his speed to mine ! Lunch was excellent.
